FANM DJANM TEAM MEMBER - BRITT

Name: Britt Belo
Position Title: Social Media Manager
Time working with us: Almost a year!! Yay! Since June of 2020.
What made you want to be a part of the Fanm Djanm team?
Our values!! Ultimately I was struck by the beauty of Fanm Djanm’s social media/imagery, but I was really pulled in when I started doing more research on exactly what the brand was about and how Paola makes it a number one priority to empower women, most importantly black women. I also really like the idea of working on such a small team  just because as  I start to build my career, it’s really important to me to work in a space (even if that means remotely) where there isn’t so much of a disconnect between  who you’re working with or for. One thing I’ve also been thinking about a lot lately and am super grateful for, is the fact that I work with such amazing and hard-working women… it’s super empowering and even comforting during a time where so much craziness is going on. I feel really grateful.

What is your go-to headwrap style?
Not really sure what to call it, but this lol :
Which headwrap fabric is your favourite to wrap with?
Cotton Gauze, the way it drapes but also holds structure is so nice.
What is one thing you enjoy doing that most people don't know about?
I’m very into Avatar The Last AirBender, Legend of Korra, Studio Ghibli and am starting to do research on more Anime to watch as well (lol things more authentic than Avatar), I want to know everything about it because I think it’s super beautiful how something that is so seemingly “childish” or “naive” is so poetic and has a lot of power and craft behind it. But I think I’ve always been somewhat influenced by anime and manga. I used to use manga illustration books to teach myself to draw when I was younger.

What are some books on your reading list?
I have sooo many!
Your Silence will not Protect You, Audre Lorde
From Betty Crooker to Feminist Food Studies: Critical Perspectives on Women and Food, Arlene Voskj Avakian and Barbara Haber
Talking to Strangers, Malcolm Gladwell
Braiding SweetGrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer
Algorithms of Oppression, Safiya Umoja Noble
No Logo, Naomi Klein
The Black Surrealists, Michel Jean Claude
Also got some for Christmas I haven’t even touched yet.
If you could choose 2 Fanm Djanms, past and present, to have a brunch date with who would it be? and Why?
Eartha Kitt and Issa Rae, they’re two creative women I admire a lot and their energies seem so different yet they cross over a lot in my opinion so I think that would be such a fun brunch. I identify so much with Issa’s reclaimed “awkwardness” and sense of humor. And Eartha is Eartha, like come on. I would learn so much in one brunch.
Most played artist on your Spotify playlist right now?
Silk Sonic [Bruno Mars x Anderson .Paak] (lmao) have you heard their new song?! I’m not gonna lie, I listen to it about 10 times a day. Before that it was a tie between Doja Cat and Kid Cudi
What is your favourite thing about where you live?
So! I actually live in Paris right now and Paris in the spring is honestly the best, it’s a bit different right now because of covid but I’m super fortunate to live near the Buttes Chaumont, which is a really amazing park here and I love going for a run their in the mornings when I have the chance. But to be honest, my absolute favourite thing about living in Paris/my specifici neighbourhood is just walking outside and discovering what the city has to offer that day.. Whether it’s a cafe that decided to convert to a flea market for the day to the sun finally deciding to peek out through the clouds over that classic french architecture.. It’s so pleasant.
Which 90's tv show character do you most identify with? and why?
Not 90s, but I’m obsessed with Toni from Girlfriends… When I was young I thought she was the most beautiful and amazing person. In revisiting the show nowww, obviously my taste in role models as young girl could be considered questionable but I stand
Give one random fact about yourself.
I’m a twin!
