Meet Simone Monique Barnes, founder of Wrap Your Head Around Cancer. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she was offered catalogs of products she could access that could make her feel more confident throughout treatment. What she found was makeup that was not her color and blond wigs. Throughout her treatment, she saw how Black people were underrepresented in the support offered to cancer patients and their families. She started Wrap Your Head Around Cancer as a way to give Black cancer patients things they actually needed, like headwraps, shea butter, wigs that fit them, as well as resources and education. When on a life-changing journey, researching online can feel overwhelming and daunting. On Wrap Your Head Around Cancer's website, you can see resources broken down by topic.
Watch this conversation in which Simone shares her experience as a Black cancer patient with Fanm Djanm founder, Paola Mathé.
